Society's Lies A poem  by Althorian

When I first saw myself

how others did.

I was shocked

that I had allowed myself

to believe the lies

I was constantly being told.

My life was a lie,

and as a lie,

it must return to truth.

And I must relinquish my life.

I must leave it behind,

and take the path

that will lead to discovery.

Finally finding myself at last,

I will be able to choose

what I become.

Rather than be moulded

by the expectations of society,

Born of lies.

I must return to the start

before I reach the end.

For I know this story

will end in sorrow,

if allowed

to reach its conclusion.

I know what I must do

but I cannot do it.

Life does not allow us

to begin again.

We must take the chances,

so that we might

not feel the need

to have to begin again.
