well, well, well... I have a hard time with the fact that the servants are going to a well when they can get food at the touch of a button in the home. Granted, I see it's for cleaning water, but still... Aside from that, I enjoyed the chapter. Miss Angie stayed in her over-the-top character. (the tantrum reminded me of a little Miss with ringlets that we both know and love...) Liked the way we find out more about the servants (and I agree, they need some sort of meeting place to dicuss matters, it was just the setting that threw me off...) |

Well, well, well - now that's a deep subject :-) Sorry, couldn't resist. Anyway, yes, I had a feeling that would throw people - note that the entire setting is a blend of technology and lack thereof (for instance, those same servants are pulling a cart by hand, when you'd imagine that a place with food synthesizers, they'd also have, at the very least, mechanized carts). This is based on two theories of mine: 1)when over half of society is dismissed as 'servants' or 'peasants', technological advances are going to be dramatically slowed; and 2)any inventions that make it into the mainstream will be made by the upper class, and therefore will only address the needs of the upper class. And yes, you guessed it - the well is for cleaning water, and that's why the servants must walk across town to get it (heaven forbid that they clean with the purified and mineralized water that gets pumped right into the homes!). But I'll try to make that a little clearer in the next chapter. (Or you could, should you choose to mash it...) :-) Ringlets... lol. Yes, that is much like her, isn't it? |
