"Hi, honey," my boyfriend Antonio said to me on the phone. He called me at 12:00 p.m., and I did not have to go to work at Fashion World, because my supervisor, Amairani Tavarez (a beautiful blonde who was Mexican and Argentinian) gave me the day off, which I was grateful for.
I grinned. "Hi, Antonio. How are you doing?"
"Fine, thanks, and you?"
"Good, thanks for asking. So what do you plan on doing this sunny day?"
Antonio chuckled. "Well, I'm going to bring my younger sister Xiomaraquel to her art class." Xiomaraquel was indeed Antonio's younger sister, and she was five-foot-seven, with curly brown hair and a great smile. Plus, she was autistic, but she was great at drawing people. She was eighteen years old.
"That's nice. What time are you going to do that?"
"Her class starts at 1:00 p.m., so I'd probably have to leave the house around 12:40. After I drop her off, I was wondering if I could please come over to see you."
"What time, mi papi chulo venezolano?" I asked.
"I'll be there around 1:15ish, Jacqueline. I have a surprise for you, and I'm not going to tell you what it is."
I felt very emotional and sensual inside at the same time. "Oooh, I can't wait to see the surprise." I always felt that way, because I always enjoyed Antonio's visits. He was a great boyfriend who really cared about how I really felt, and he was very respectful.
"Okay, well, mi princesa cubana y alemana, I'll see you after. Te amo."
I smiled. "I love you, too, Antonio." Then I hung up.
As I was sitting on the bed in my room, I couldn't help but look at some of the pictures that Antonio and I took together. Antonio, with his cute curly brown hair that went a little past his shoulders, was looking absolutely handsome, and I, with my dark brown (sometimes black) mane that was pretty long, was smiling like my mother Bertica and being the quiet, sensitive person that I was.
I was so glad that 1:15 p.m. rolled around. I ran down the stairs as quickly as I could, but I didn't hurt myself. When I opened the door, I found myself facing...Antonio? Sure, I recognized his face, but there was something different about his hair. He didn't have the long hair anymore! He had some curls on the top, but he had a short haircut.
"Surprise!" Antonio exclaimed. "I decided to cut my long locks and donate them to a place for people who have cancer."
I was very surprised that he cut his hair, but I was happy that he did it for a good cause. But I did like it, because when I first met Antonio, his hair was short just like it was now. "Wow! You still look great!"
"Thank you, Jacqueline." Antonio smiled. Then he and I kissed each other on the lips, because we were still overjoyed by being together. No matter if his hair was long or short, I still loved Antonio for who he was on the inside. And that was the truth!
