Frustration settles in as thoughts of doubt bounce around in my mind. Sure I can be a writer, it's easy. Yeah right. Come up with an idea, anything will do but you get short changed by not having enough depth. Too much sauce and not enough meat as I say. It's gotta have substance, something to capture the reader's mind and imagination. How do you do that I wonder?
You can only say so much before you ramble and the reader gets lost. You can only have so much detail before the reader tires of hearing how elaborate a piece of cloth is. So what to write I wonder, or how to write I should say.
"Once upon a time."
No no no that's terrible. What is this, a fairy tale? Sigh, if only a way to get something started without it sounding cliche'. So many ideas running around upstairs. Need a way to organize and focus my ideas. Ah Ha! No, that's not it. Hmm.
What to say, what to write.........? Wait a tick, I have it. Something short and sweet. Who says I can't write a fairy tale? Here we go!
"There once was a young King who ruled with a just and noble hand. He loved his people, and they loved him. No one in his kingdom suffered from poverty, no one went hungry. This happiness all came at a price, as the king aged so did the kingdom. The land began to crack, the rivers became dry, even the castle fell into disrepair. The King saw his people begin to suffer, and knew there was no end to it. When his time came to pass, it would be the end of his beloved kingdom.
Many weeks later the king fell terribly ill. His queen and daughter by his side, they watched helplessly as he began to fade. At that moment a young boy came running in, arms filled with parchment and scrolls. He explained to the queen and the princess that there was a way to save the kingdom. There was an ancient power far to the north. There lay the kings of old, forever entombed. Their secrets gaurded by fierce beasts no man has ever seen. The northern people revered the kings of old as gods. The journey would be perilous and only one of royal blood could enter the tomb. Once inside they would have to meet the spirit council and meet their challenge. What this challenge might be, no one knows.
