Flight Two needs a minimum of six committed mashers. So far I've got Cheeseliker. Who is joining Cheesie? I require only committment and desire (and the willingness to avoid starting any story with the words: vampire, high school, zombies, or cute guy in the first sentence. I will be asking each masher to search the entire archive for the one story that grabs you, regardless of who the author is. Do not post anything yet. Wait for the official starting gun to go off. My wife hid all my guns. It might take me a week or so to find it.

Flight Two must set a deadline for choosing first chapter. All first chapters must be identified by Saturday 9/18/10. At this time it is also prudent to put out a call for back-up writers. I have 6 who have graciously committed to be our mashers, but I need each of the six (Cheeseliker, mjm, djbishop, OriginalSim, theblackhand, and mathematician extraordinaire WBScott) to be ready by 9/18/10. If not, we move on. Is anyone experiencing problems and/or time constraints?

The time resrtaints with me are not a problem. I would recommend dogdeity11 if we need backups, he is one of the greatest writer here on SM. Also, I see that you contacted crystalfoo, who would also be a tremendous addition to the fold. She last logged in on the 7th, so maybe she will answer the call. Psycho1_77 is also a great writer who I recommend as well. Also, you can put out a call in to honeygloom, who is right up there with dog. There is one other who has been one of the best writers in my opinion, but has been off for awhile, by the name of Persephonie, if push comes to shove contact her...whomever amongst them that answers the call will not disappoint.

If I may request, when you read a draft chapter, please go back and read the published one, especially if you are up next. It is very important with maintaining the accuracy of the story. I added more to my chapters a day or two after a draft was posted. Please don't assume that any of the chapters are finished until you know they have been published.

Sky is working on an internet explorer version. There are issues in getting one to publish. Check the site tomorrow. Do you have access to viewing the stories thru Mozilla?

I have used mozilla before on a past cpu...I just checked the site and they have a free download for their firefox browser. I may download tomorrow...anyway I did post a small draft on my profile from the 'new story' link on here. If nothing else, you can pull it from my profile page and post it under sky's 3rd chapter, if possible.

I found your chapter and am trying to get it added just as you suggested. I am awaiting feedback from the wizard behind the curtain. Sky has added Death Resolutions' next chapter using Internet Explorer. You shouldn't have this problem again.

I'm completely blank for my next chapter on Teenaged Angst and Mouthbreathing. Can someone take over just for this chapter? I just can't seem to do it.

Writer's block suck!

However, I don't think we should let you off so easily cheese for the simple fact that you are a good writer. Push through this wall. Write something/anything. It doesn't have to be good or a "masterpiece." You write some of the best visual combat scenes of anyone on this site. I know you can easily write a fight scene even if it doesn't progress the story. Cheese, you can do it, and that story needs you!

Part of being a writer is working past comfort zones and blanks that may arise. Even though they are annoying, it seems that the writer always grow when they do, so if this is a democracy, my vote is not to let you off the hook.

Now, get to writing writing I expect something from you even if it's only 500 words.

I need updates from MJM, Hebe and Cheesie. This is just a gentle nudge. Cheese, ya back in? Good job WBScott, Sky and theblackhand. I also want to open the door for any guest writers to fill in a chapter or two when needed. The bullpen is officially open for business.

The Matrix WBScott came up with is still a workable tool. I'll ask Sky to publish. It would be great if we could get more positive/supportive feedback and commentary. I see that Sky's 'Dead Resolutions' chapter has had only one comment and that was from a non-masher in this Flight (me). Glad to have you back on board, Cheesie.

Thanks for noticing the dearth of comments on my stories. It is why I haven't chosen to publish Dead Resolutions yet. I was hoping to benefit from input from seasoned writers on this sight. Hopefully that gentle nudge will help.

Publish when you guys feel the story is ready. It's refreshing to see the draft phase used this much. Used to be mashers published immediately despite typos, grammar/spelling issues and internal logic problems. Theblackhand has a comment and suggestion for Sky before Dead Resolutions gets published. Hopefully that will be today. I am also organizing an official Search Party for MJM and Heb.

Somehow, I gained a social life. I thought I'd have Breathing Paradises posted by now. I foresee myself writing it by next Sunday though.

My heart isn't into this project right now...I have no desire to write anything, my interest waning in trying to create, yet becoming more focused on learning new things, such as the universe, about God, man, the ancients, whether human or extraterrestrial, time travel, psychedelics, even about myself.
I am going away from SM for awhile. Taking a hiatus. Because lately I have really been struggling with the idea of putting theblackhand to rest, killing off my alter-ego permanently. tbh bleeds me dry, while pushing the limits of my insanity. I don't know if I like being him anymore.

Hey, before we assume the demise of the original participants, why don't we give them a chance to respond to this all too generous give away of their project. I have had a little more difficulty prying myself away from the eggnog than expected, but that doesn't mean I am totally smashed. I would still like to finish my commitment to Flight 2, as is my nature to be true to my word, unless you would rather leave it up to this "club" of exclusive writers that have taken an interest in this project. I have felt all along like an outsider at this site as comments on my contributions have been minimal. Maybe my work is so poor that it is easier to hope I just go away than ask me to.

Guys, I hope you do get a chance to finish flight one and two and I look forward to reading the conclusions you come up with.

Skylark, I recommend deep breaths. Here's some advice from a semi-seasoned writer on this site.

One - it takes time to integrate yourself into the "club" as you refer to them. These people you have been collaborating with are the cream of the crop of SM. The best of the best. We were incredibly lucky to get the writers we got for both flights of this project and though I am sad to see so many have had to drop out, myself included, I am glad they were able to participate in the first place. Time, comments, experience, good writing, good feedback, collaboration, etc. all equal being added to this "group" but most importantly is time. It simply takes time to establish yourself on SM because with time comes exposure. The more you comment, the more you reach out in forum discussions, the more you participate with the other writers, and the more you submit to be read, the greater the exposure.

Now, here's the hard part. No matter how good of a writer you are on this site, it will not guarantee comments or feedback or even votes. There are a lot of writers on this site and most of them are focused solely on their own work - so much so that they don't take the time to read other works. There was a question asked in the forum a while back about how many writers there were on SM. Go back through the forums to find it and you'll be amazed at the answer. There is a lot of traffic on this site and yet, there are slow seasons and warm seasons, seasons where you will have a lot of readers and feedback, and seasons where you will have none. The key is rolling with the waves instead of being crushed under them. I, for one, have not been able to participate on the site and though I love to read and comment and offer feedback to the others, I don't have the time. A lot of the great writers on this site are in the same boat right now.

To conclude, while I do understand your frustration in seemingly being overlooked, the call out to those still interested in this flight of the project went out weeks ago with no response from many of the participants. What other conclusion can be made from this other than they are simply unable to rejoin the project?

With that said, Al, WBS, sorry to intrude on your flight. Good luck on completion.

Thanks, JD, for your helpful response to my yelp. Admittedly when I returned to check on the project, I was surprised and a bit hurt by the swift replacement our members. Not to be argumentative, but I do believe that most of the dialogue to return to the project came on the other forum page for flight one and not this one.

I appreciate the time you took to explain how to navigate through the novice phase of SM participation. Actually I have seen the "Look at me Look at me!" types you describe on SM who disappear when no one responds to their work. Of course they offered no feedback to others and wonder why. I am not that type. I tend to hide! I believe that my expectation of feedback was more with regard for the collaborative nature of the project that I embarked on in flight two. It seemed to be an integral part of working these story threads from one writer to the next. Some gave feedback. Others didn't. Most comments went to familiar "faces" and I learned to expect that.

I agreed that, as you say, " These people you have been collaborating with are the cream of the crop of SM. The best of the best" A little intimidating. Which was why I had to wonder if these seasoned writers had preferred to work with each other and not a 'newbie' who wished to learn from their work and participation. Theblackhand (also gone) did a great job modeling the writing process in the draft phase of this project. WBS, too. I learn volumes from that. I hope to continue if all are game.

I apologize if I sounded wounded. It is also my nature to twist everything into a personal rejection. It sucks. I'm working on that.

Actually, I would say most of us are always looking forward to the contribution of a "newbie." Especially one with talent such as yourself. Now hurry up on "Being a Farmer is Too Safe;" I've been waiting for that continuation for over two months now:)

Thanks for the encouragement! I started a draft much earlier and was afraid to come back to it since this entire story forces me to stretch my imagination beyond its familiar bounds. One I enjoyed reading but feared contributing to. I see this as a good thing, however and will continue on with the endeavor. Fortunately, I have called in sick today and plan on devoting time to the story between sneezes. I promised the family I'd disinfect the keyboard. Should have a draft ready to post soon.

Skylark! Forgive me for assuming you bailed like so many others. It's sad, but what usually happens is that a committed writer will often fade away without telling. Just look at the top of the forum. There are writers who said they were in and didn't even write the first chapter. It really is good to have your contributions, and you can definitely have your slots back.

A plaintive whistle echoes in a ghostly manner across the dry, barren plain. From the east, a lone tumbleweed. Basking lizards lift their heads to watch it pass, then resume soaking in the sun, unconcerned by the movement. There is no threat - no man - in sight.

Seriously? Anyone???

Her voice returns to her sun-burned ears again and again. Nothing in sight could have caused the echo and she stands in the middle of the plain, blinking at the vast nothingness.

Sorry, I was- and am- distracted by the whole Nuclear geyser out in Japan. The govts are lying. A lot of people are going to die from the radiation. It's frickin insane that people are so... passive about all of this. And I thought the Oil spill was bad. I miss those good old days.

Hear, hear, ShadowedPen: I miss the days when the public would have rallied on the steps of congress and demanded change! Passive is too mild to describe...yes, us...these days; apathetic is much more apropos.
