Here is my totally unsolicited advice to all the new writers on SM who either ask the same questions or make the same requests. The following advice is mine and mine alone. Feel free to ignore any and all portions of it.

1) Always score your own writing. Give yourself a five.
2) Never worry about money. Never complain about money.
3) Don't go away after a week or a month...19 out of 20 do.
4} Read other works, score and above all, politely comment.
5} Never ask that anyone read your writing. Just write.
6) Never mis-spell cuss words to fool the censor.
7) Avoid copy and pasting.
8) Always make additional chapters part of original thread.
9) Never ask us to go to another website to see your work.
10) Don't use text translators.

I am glad you put this up! :) Lays some ground rules for future writers here. #3 is very true sadly :( I myself joined about a week ago and I want to get more people on here somehow. This site is 4 years old and should be doing very well by now!

You and me both! I've been here over three years and I still haven't figured out the thongs work. I mean, the black leather ones, okay; but, those lacy, racy red satin thongs are mind boggling...ya know?

Lets talk about rule number 7.
Say that you've typed and typed and typed your story on another site and for now, it's all you've got under your belt, or above it. Of course, you may, at some time, in the near future, write another story, but this one is still in the works, (raw, draft, never been read before, by lets just say, you for instance) and, never finished. Do I type and type and type and . . . all over again on this site, or do I copy and paste. After all, it's my story and I'm sticking to it. And, since we have rule number 9, well, you may never get to read my story if it's on best one ever written dot com. And since we have rule number 5, I didn't want to read your story any way. That is, if that's how you really feel about it . . . I mean, if that's how I really feel about rule number 5. I would be happy and all the glitz and glamor if someone would read anything that I wrote. I mean I see your point on all these rules, but then again, I just like to write, whether you read my stories or not, that's up to you, and whether I write them or not, that's up to me. And rule number 2, what's money? Rule number 1, I score you, you score me. Personally I don't know what I would score myself, that's where I might cheat a little, on rule number 1. But, you did say that it was unsolicited advice. In that case, this is an unsolicited comment. How did I do? Did I do okay?

Regarding "rule" number 7: The reason it's on the list isn't because copying and pasting is a terrible thing. It's on the list because sometimes copying and pasting can cause formatting issues on StoryMash. So just be sure to check your formatting before you publish if you're copying and pasting.

And regarding "rule" number 1--StoryMash's scoring system automatically has you scoring your own chapters a 5. This is because it automatically compensates for that 5, giving you an initial score of 2.9ish.
