cant you guys and gals get the updates on an automated system? and whats the aproximate amount of days between pay updates? cause this is getting kinda irritating for me.

As far as I know, it is done manually. As I've said before in the forum, the pay updates are done every week or two, depending upon what other projects and renovations are being done behind the curtain.

I understand your frustration but wish that you would refrain from being so aggressive (the use of "****" in your forum post title is totally unnecessary. I, myself, curse like a sailor, but this came off as offensive).

We have never come across as a site to make a living on--if you look through the forum boards, it's mentioned many times that this isn't the place for you to make money to pay rent.

I will pass on your suggestion about making pay updates manual.

If you're submitting all your stories on StoryMash to make serious money, you're in the wrong place. Seriously. I've been a member for over a year and I'm up to almost $35. (Not including contests.) You haven't yet hit a month. Patience. Congratulations for finishing so many stories (141 chapters - wow) before arriving here. Unless the admins here change their pay structure (which I don't fully comprehend), don't expect to make a big profit.

If, conversely, you're trying to enjoy what StoryMash has to offer, try mashing more chapters with other authors here. I saw you continued something by demeonte, but didn't catch any others. It's more a writer's community than a profitable endeavor.

I'm going to try something new though. I never seem to finish anything I start on here so I'm just going to write a whole book... flat out beginning to end with nothing beyond superficial editing. Agreed. This is not a big money site, where you post work and watch cash flow in. The greatest advantage of this site is the opportunity to see your work reviewed by other writers, to get critiques and learn from others about how to improve your writing.

As you may have learned on any other number of messages in this forum, the way money is made is not by the posting of chapters, but by the number of times your chapters are visited. Slapping work on the site won't get you anywhere if no one reads it. And how do you get readers? By being a good site member. Join discussions in the forum. Offer helpful feedback on other people's work. If all you ever say is, "Nice job," you won't get much attention. Similarly, if you give critiques in an unnecessarily unkind or harsh way, you'll get ignored. But if you offer useful feedback (clearly explaining parts that could be improved, or giving specific feedback about what made a piece good), then you're showing a real interest. That's what will inspire other people to go check out your work.

But again, don't expect to see cash flowing in. Nash is a very well-read author on this site, and as he stated, he's not exactly rolling in the dough. That's not what this site is about.

I'm at like 1 cent now! I'm actually excited about that ^^ If I ever get crackin' on my work, I might actually start getting a little more attention, but I'm kinda lazy... c.c And right now I just kind of want to write something that doesn't require me to go all out on back story and history and stuff. For the most part, the best reason to write is because it's fun. So take it easy dr3ams, and just read and write at your leisure. ^.o

rsummers, if you wanted to contribure to a project thing i got going called infiite web, then i already have the back story fleshed out all you need to do is write a chapter if you wanted to!

same thing for you nash! yeah, me, demeonte, xdshadowscythe, and delmer usualy just stick to each others works because we knew each other since middle school, so we have that flow going on. right now though, xds getting married, delmers on a business trip and demeonte is... well... at this point being demeonte. lol.

thank you for your advice guys! i managed to make 1.41 my first couple of weeks here. plus ive got a whole slew of projects that i need to work on... oi vey. but if you wanted you could contribute a chapter or two to infinite web under one of the four colonies chapters ive created!

Dr3, this isn't the time to promote a project that hasn't even gone through the proper channels. This is the time you should be apologizing to the people who make this website possible. Your rudeness towards them is completely unwarranted and uncalled for.

In an earlier post along the same lines as this thread, I mentioned to you that to get readers one has to be wary their attitude in the forum. Your rudeness has gone a long way towards turning off many of the writers here from ever reading your work. And I understand that you and a few friends are collaborating. But if you are going to make it as a writer, you're going to need more than your friends' input.

Now is the time to make amends and work towards not alienating potential readers in the future.

Dr3, I see that you didn't come here to troll the forums. Please take a look at the hostile tone of your initial post here, and please understand that is towards the line of trollishness. I understand you don't like apologizing for things you've said, and if that's the way you roll, that's the way you roll. A general rule of thumb around here is that it's far better to write in the forums and in comments as if you're sitting face to face with the person.

I'm sure that you're a very nice, fun, friendly person in real life. It's just that posts like this don't really show that. And since we only get to know you through your posts... You see the problem.

If you want to talk however rudely you choose, that's certainly your choice. But please understand that people here will respond to you as if you're a rude person if that's all you choose to show.

You know, I think Katrina's post was really spot on. I don't really see why anyone here should be feeling terribly apologetic toward the things they've said to you (dr3arms) when you appear to be going out of your way to behave so rudely. What I see are responses that are clearly reflecting your own ridiculous behavior back at you. This isn't the first time nor the first place that it's happened. You seem to think that you apologize enough for things you say offline, which certainly seems to imply that this kind of behaviour is an ongoing problem for you. Instead of telling people how you aren't going to apologize anymore, maybe you should be taking a closer look at why you say the assinine things you do and perhaps instead of cutting out the apologies, just think before you type/talk.

Offline, anyone can say something they don't mean, not be able to take it back and instantly regret it. Online, you always have that extra time while you're typing or after you are typing before you hit the "submit" button to take that extra second and think about what you're saying. And with the added anonymity of the internet, you only look more pathetic to brashly announce that you'll say whatever you damn well please and screw the rest of you. What is really sad is that you are alienating the people who you could be learning from. It's a true idiot that would come onto this site, look around at the talent apparent here and then wittingly squandor that opportunity. And any writer who thinks they have nothing more to learn from others is all the more a fool.

So man up, grow up, or just stop posting on the forums. I've never posted anything like this on the site before, and I'm a bit pissed that I'm angry enough to do so now. This isn't the kind of thing that people should need spelled out for them. It should be just common sense and courtesy. And before you start bellyaching some more about how maybe you have a point, maybe you should take a look at how many people are speaking out against your behavior and consider that maybe THEY have a point.

Dr3, I don't know if you realize this, but I hope that what these people are saying might shine some light on this point: We all, those of us who take our work seriously, have a mutual respect for one another, regardless of our anonymity. Yes, we can joke and play around, but no one gets offended because we've developed our online reputations and relationships accordingly. We are all a great group, not one to alienate. And we are all quick to come to another's defense if necessary.

Everyone has their outside world experiences that make them who they are. I get that. I have mine. But when I'm online, I put aside my own selfish (or shellfish) tendencies for the better of the group. I respect those who make this site possible and I respect my fellow writers. I treat others the way I wish to be treated. If I offend anyone, I would want them and others to put me in my place because I don’t want to be seen as an offensive person. And I have been put in my place here before. The difference is, I learned from it, grew from it, and became a better person because of it.

What I'm trying to say is, look around you on this site - we are a group, a real writing group. If this were in-person instead of online, would you treat your writing group or even publisher the way you're treating us right now? If not, why such a difference? If so, well, that is your choice, but it is a choice that won't get you very far. There are a lot of people on this site with experience and wisdom you could glean from. With so many lives willing to help, why push them away? Why not build yourself up here instead of tearing yourself down?

Right now, your writings in this forum are a direct reflection upon yourself. The way they are interpreted is you possess a lack of respect, for others and for yourself.

There is still time to turn around and make amends. You can still be a part of this writing group. It isn’t too late to find a mutual understanding with the great, and I mean GREAT, writers on this site. But it is your choice. I pray you think about it a while and realize all you would miss out on if you don't.

jd, rs, and everyone else, im sorry, its just that i write the way i write because its just how i write. im not one to really apologize for my actions or words, the flame of anger is stil the same, over the payoutsm ind you and nothing else.

i only complained about that and nothing else, and suddenly everyone gets on my case for improper grammar, spelling and everything else? i know about the pay system, every ten days or maybe its fifteen the stats for that get updated.

looking back upon this, i realize that im right at some points and wrong at others. i know that theres a great comunity of writers here with vast wealths of knowledge. xd ill get to you in a second.

outside of xd, demeonte, and delmer, i dont really work well with others, i dont edit my stuff because outside of the nit picker thatll get angry because they cant get through the first sentence with out having a coniption fit... there are intelligent people that will be able to see through the mask of the obvious.

i joined story mash for one reason and one reason only, to get complex storylines done, give my writing style a major tune up in terms of how far i can push the envelope and hopefully make a couple of bucks in the process.

im not looking for friends thatll pat me on the back every time i do a good job, or scorn me everytime they think the stories not oging anywhere.

but if that happens along the way, then all the more for me. its mainly the pay updates im angry with and nothing else. and while i could rant and rave about all the assinign comments ive been getting, i wont. i came here to get stuff done and make money. end of story. orj ust the beginning of it.

Hey all, Morgan, AKA Dr3arms here, anyways, I'm on Wattpad.com now, and I'm doing a new Ebook on the Fearsome Foursomes little dramatic escapade here on Storymash. Also, to JD, dude. My god my man, thank you for putting me in my place back then. You're right, you've always been right. If this were face to face instead of online, I would've acted much differently than I did here. I've always been uncomfortable in groups, and tended to think of myself as the low man on the totem pole.

Upon further reflection, and rereading this thread, I do come across as being a person who didn't understand what he was doing to all of the hard work he had previously built up. While all the others simply goaded me on in one way or another, you, Katrina, and a few others I don't remember calmed things down right quick.

While you were gone, it seems as though people have been clicking on and reading your chapters. Just because you haven't recently posted anything doesn't mean that you can't build some change in your SM account. If you have any chapters that are online with us, you have the potential to make money, regardless of when your last sign-in was.
